American Soda & Candy, in Conlig!

The World of Kitsch has a worldwide audience, but at its beginning I always posted any interesting imported food I found here in Northern Ireland.

I don't mean exotic rice-stuffed vine leaves, or spices from India, I mean American, or Eastern European junk food.

My Twitter friend @gay_burns posted an Instagram of the imported Mountain Dew he found this morning, and within 3 hours I'd visited the shop in question & stocked up. They also have Root Beers, Dad's Cream Soda & Berry drinks. £1.35 per can.

If you are Northern Irish, it's the Mace on the Green Road in Conlig that's housing these treasures.

Everyone else wanting a Yankee fix, head to www.CyberCandy.co.uk The online site from the Covent Garden based store. I can't never leave there without spending £30+

World of Kitsch Readers' Offer- 50% Off Vintage Couture Headphones

Goodbye iPhone in-ears, hello lovely, comfy, girly headphones. I rarely listen to music on headphones, basically because I can't stand those pokey-in-ear ones. I've also tried my husband's big headphones he uses for practising guitar, but they were clunky and awkward. And so, like a Goldilocks of headphones, I've found the ones that are 'just right'. I was sent these RHA Couture pair to try out for www.TheWorldofKitsch.com due to the slant that they are contributing with illustrators to create a range of styled 'phones. I expected to receive them, have a go with them, tell you all how pretty they are (they ARE pretty) then that would be that.
But, I AM IN LOVE.

As a practical product it solves my headphone problems. The 'cups' (technical term) are smaller than regular sets I've tried before, so they actually fit a girly head.

I sat last night, very pleased with myself, listening to background music from the Disneyland Parks on them.

So now I can offer you fellows 50% off on Amazon, so you can get yourself a pair too.
They retail at £49.95, but by using the code KITSCH50 you can grab a set for £24.95 Wee Tuesday morning bargain for you. Ends 10th April 2012.

The Overlook Hotel Carpet Installation

www.SashaKrieger.com

"In The Overlook, I recreated a carpet from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 filmThe Shining in the Lobby Gallery in the Dominion Hotel. By introducing a visual motif from the film into a hotel on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, I was interested in exploring the multiple and shifting influences that create a sense of place. The orange, red, and brown geometrically patterned carpet served as a potent visual signifier of the horror and aesthetic of the cult classic, in which Jack Nicholson’s character descends into madness while attempting to write a novel. Seeking to emulate anxieties about production and isolation central toThe Shining, I produced the 500-square-foot carpet through the labor-intensive process of latch-hooking. I worked 16 hours a day over a 19-week period to complete the project and over 40 people participated in the making of the piece, transforming what would have otherwise been a controlled and solitary effort into a process of openness and exchange."

A Painting of Zayn from One Direction with Pancakes for Hair- Dan Lacey

We are through the Trans-Atlantic looking glass now, people.

"A painting of Zayn from the group One Direction with pancakes for hair.

Zayn has interesting hair, but how much better it would be if it were delicious pancakes!"

A little shout-out to the Queen of Vinyl, Tanya Mellotte, who was one half of the DJ team behind the clubnight Skibunny, my favourite night of the week when I was in my 20s. Also where I had my first kiss with my now husband!

"The album was recorded in Los Angeles in 5 days and features Chris Bruce (producer/guitars), Deantoni Parks of the Mars Volta (drums), Jebin Bruni (keys) as well as some very special guest appearances to be announced! The music moves from straight-up indie rock to cinematic desert-style ballads."
