About

The World of Kitsch was started in 2009 as a way of me, Claire Spence sharing my charity shop finds & the weird and wonderful objects I bought to furnish my rather unusual home.

It's evolved in to an ecclectic site featuring inspiring new products, clever design, bizarre art, charity shop hauls & anything else I find to deem cool enough for my readers.

I regularly work with brands such as IKEA, Marks & Spencer, Asda, Lidl and Tesco NI, but I also love to feature local small businesses, and right down to individual Etsy sellers and illustrators.

As of August 2017, my monthly hit rate is 13,000+ On social media platforms I'm @rudedoodle you can click through to any of them at the top of any page.

I love featuring all sorts of brands, events and products, so if you would like to appear on The World of Kitsch, fill in the form below.

In 2010 The World of Kitsch won a Cosmopolitan Magazine Blog Award, which led to the opportunity of me becoming one of Cosmo's guest bloggers.

In 2012 I was a finalist in their Lifestyle category.

In September 2011 I appeared on BBC Radio 6's Lauren Laverne Show, chatting about The World of Kitsch and blogging.

2012 brought expanding partnerships with blog outreach from brands such as Sainsburys, M&S, Stena Line and John Lewis. The site made the finals of the 2012 Cosmopolitan Magazine Blog Awards again, and I had the pleasure of attending the glittering awards night in London.  I became the home ware columnist for a year for Things & Ink Magazine, a glossy, female alternative culture publication on sale in locations such as Selfridges, Oxford Street, London. I write a monthly column in print for a local, Northern Irish parenting supplement.

In 2013 The World of Kitsch continued to build audience, passing the 1 million unique visitor mark after a move from Posterous to Squarespace hosting. I regularly make the top 75 of the Tots100.co.uk a ranking of thousands of UK parenting blogs based on influence, hits and reach. It updates monthly, and as of September 2013 I have peaked at 23rd in the whole UK.

In July 2013 I had the privilege of Tweeting for my country for a week as the @Ireland curator. That month I also undertook a travel blogging holiday for Tesco Magazine's Great Family Road Trip project.

In 2014 I continued blogging and reviewing products from many of my favourite brands like M&S. I attended lots of local blogging events and contributed in print with a monthly column in the local paper The County Down Spectator.

2015 saw The World of Kitsch named as one of Northern Ireland's best blogs by NI Parcels in their roundup. My son and I continue to review products as a team now, with toy brands Character and Flair allowing us to test out new toys before launch.

In 2016 I was a finalist in the Irish Blog Awards, in the Best Blog Post Category, for a post collaborating with Yo Sushi.
