Making my own Day of the Dead box Altar

I thought I'd use an old Soap & Glory gift set box to make my own Mexican Altar. These kitsch shrines are made to celebrate loved ones who have passed away, but mine will include the little likenesses of my husband and I, from the top of our wedding cake.

This is the authentic Mexican box I bought for my husband for our last wedding anniversary. Made by a chap who's family have made them for generations, carved from wood.

Here are some examples of other designs.

And here is my start- I've painted the inside gaudy turquoise and yellow. I'll add other clashing colours and glitter next.

Outside of the box is a Mexican hillside scene.

So I will blog about this again when I've finished the inside section.
