The Overlook Hotel Carpet Screenprint

You'll know the art collection adorning my walls costs pennies rather than pounds (exception being very talented local artist Terry Bradley's work!).
So at a whole £13, this is one of the more costly pieces!

It's an A3 screenprint of the carpet from The Overlook Hotel in The Shining. The pattern alone makes it a print suited for my home, but I love the Shining connection & will be interested on which visitors are freaked out by it in our long hallway!

I found it on www.lastexittoknowhere.com who are better know for their geek chic tshirts designed with logos of brands only seen on the screen. For example you can buy Amityville tshirts inspired by Jaws, or a snazzy tee with the logo of Soap Company from Fight Club on it.

Whilst I advise all of you to visit Last Exit, I do warn the males of my family that I was on the site for Christmas present purposes, so don't you go looking!

Beautiful Modernist Wooden Sewing Box

This is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately I can't sew, but I know a lot of innovative crafters follow my blog, so this may appeal to you.

I've seen quite a lot of these sewing boxes on eBay, but really can't fit one in our house, or justify it's necessity.

I'm really settling on the Eames/Spaceage/Mid-century era as my favourite. You can spot the shapes & designs easily as they are reminiscent of the stylings of the cartoon The Jetsons. Atomic Boomerangs, kidney shaped tables, bold graphic designs.

Childhood Sweeties, Drumstick Lipbalm

I'm ten years too old to cross the threshold of a Claire's Accessories, but I spied these lip balms through the window.

Very quaint little tin of lip balm, I expected it to be in the colours of the original lollipop, but instead it has a lovely sheen on one side & glitz on the other.
I'm also pleased to confirm it tastes like Swizzels Matlow Drumsticks.

I love the kitschness of an object masquerading as something else, so although my realm deals with the ugly, rather than beauty blogging, I thought I'd include this treat.

World of Kitsch Tretchikoff Giveaway!

As a thanks to my readers who voted for me in the Cosmo Blog Awards, I'm running a little competition.

You can win a set of three Tretchikoff print coasters. A little mini-slice of kitsch that will fit into even the most 'normal' home!

If you'd like to enter, please comment on this post before midnight on Tuesday. I will use an online random number generator to pick the winner, then announce it here on Wednesday, so I can arrange to send these to the winner!

I think I'd like to do competitions more regularly, as I've started to run out of room for things, and when I spot something good in a charity shop I'd rather I knew it had gone to one of you guys! So keep an eye on the blog.
