Whimsical Pancake Cottages

I recently paired up with Dan Lacey, painter of pancakes, as my US/UK Candy Swap penpal match. I'm hoping to post him some Tayto Titanic crisps- I wonder will he post me any pancakes?

I love the work he's been doing this past few weeks. Thomas Kinkade inspired pancake houses. Available on eBay now.

"This is my, large 2 by 3 foot painting of a pancake cottage, inspired by the work of the great Thomas Kinkade. I call this painting 'The Breakfast Cottage.'

This painting again has great detail and is great fun.  The painting is in acrylic on a stretched, wrap-around canvas, with the edge of the canvas painted in metallic bronze.  A delightful original, one-of-a-kind accompanyment to anyone who collects Thomas Kinkade."

Super Realistic Giant Waffles, Sweeties & Sushi Floor Mats for your Home

I first came across Sydney's hand painted trompe l'oeil work back in 2008. I got very excited when I found her sushi floor mat on eBay & bought it to brighten up my kitchen. Besides the excellent quality of the art work, as a practical product it has lasted brightly & without rips in our busy kitchen.

Product reviews aside, you can't ignore Sydney's talent for hyper real, larger than life trompe l'oeil. She now showcases and sells work through Etsy, so if you fancy owning big cupcake, giant slice of tomato, or commissioning your own favourite food to be made into a mat visit http://www.etsy.com/shop/artbelongseverywhere

The Whimsical World of Suzanne Black Art

I'm chuffed to say I went to school with the lady behind these kitsch beauties. Suzanne Black has invaded retro prints with her own creatures & giant, twee children. Such a clever idea. Got to get myself one of these. Or maybe two.

You can contact Suzanne to buy, or find out more on jamsue@hotmail.co.uk

Little Crying Girl and Lassie Painting, Jigsaw

P266

A friend asked me the name of this artist only this week, and coincidentally I found this in a charity shop today.

It's by Charles Burton Barber, who was an artist for the royals, painting their children and pets.

The fact this is a framed jigsaw gives it extra kitsch points.

Girl Crying with a Startled Lassie Painting

People have mentioned this print to me when I have posted creepy children's art previously. My own gran had it too, so I decided to hunt it out online.

It's has a very kitsch backstory. The artist Charles Burton Barber, was commissioned by Queen Victoria the First to paint portraits of her grandchildren with their pets.
Kitsch thrives in the market of trying to make small, working class homes far grander than they are (huge ornaments etc), so a mass produced print by an artist for the Royals fits this category perfectly.

Personally I couldn't own this print myself, it used to spook me so much as a child at my gran's house, I wouldn't want it.

Tattoo Flash by Bob Done, Brighton

I've touched on old school tattoo, nautical kitsch before & thought I'd include this original painting by Brighton's Bob Done.

I commissioned this for my first wedding anniversary as my 'paper' gift for my husband.
We are both quite heavily tattooed with old school designs, so I knew he'd appreciate this.

I've been thinking lately about getting a tattoo dedicated to my love of kitsch, but can't decide which iconic item to have etched onto myself!
